Project Recover
Project Recover supports victims of human trafficking – in Toronto and across all of Canada – by working with Canadian creditors to remove fraudulent and coercive debt from the victim’s name. The program advocates for survivors, while also ensuring they’re not revictimized or retriggered in the process.
Victims of human trafficking experience an average debt of $23,500. Traffickers commonly coerce victims to take out credit cards in their own name, which are then used to purchase cell phones, hotel rooms and transportation. Project Recover works with banks, telecommunication companies, car rental companies and property managers to get rid of these debts.
Project Recover was founded in 2019 and joined Victim Services Toronto in 2022. Since 2019, it has opened over 500 cases and removed $2.5 million in fraudulent and coercive debt.

Project Recover works with human trafficking advocacy agencies who have an agreement with Victim Services Toronto. Additionally, advocates seeking Project Recover’s support for a client must be certified by Project Recover. To learn more, please book an appointment.
